Koumbes Beach

  • Driving Time: Less than 1 minute (45 meters).

  • The Vibe: Local, intimate, and right at your doorstep.

  • The Details: Located directly across the street from the Kimata Sea Front area, this shore features a mix of pebbles and sand looking out over the western side of the Venetian Fortezza. It’s perfect for a spontaneous morning swim or a relaxing sunset walk without needing to worry about town parking.

Rethymnon Beach

  • Driving Time: 10 minutes (3.1 km).

  • The Vibe: Expansive, organized, and high-energy.

  • The Details: This is the main city beachfront that extends for kilometers to the east. Boasting soft golden sand, a gentle slope into the sea, and active lifeguards, it’s packed with fully organized beach bars, sunbeds, and water sports.

    Panormos Beach

    • Driving Time: 25 minutes (22 km).

    • The Vibe: Traditional, quiet, and family-friendly.

    • The Details: Panormos features a series of small, sandy, and well-sheltered coves. Because the harbor protects the water from the northern summer winds (meltemia), the sea here is almost always calm, making it perfect for a relaxed day paired with a fresh fish lunch at a traditional village taverna.

      Damnoni & Ammoudaki Beaches

      • Driving Time: 42 minutes (approx. 34 km).

      • The Vibe: Crystal-clear waters and relaxed sunbathing.

      • The Details: Located just east of Plakias, Damnoni is a vast sandy bay with great tavernas and amenities. Right next to it lies Ammoudaki (Little Ammoudi), a smaller, secluded cove known for its striking turquoise, colder waters and brilliant white sand.

        Preveli Beach

        • Driving Time: 45 minutes (approx. 38 km).

        • The Vibe: Tropical, exotic, and majestic.

        • The Details: Preveli is famous for its dramatic river delta lined with a lush palm forest that cuts through the Kourtaliotiko Gorge.
